Washington Square Park

This was an emulation of William Eggleston. He was a big fan of color, especially the color red. I love how the red umbrella really stands out against the falling water drops.

Brooklyn

Summer in the city, I'm so lonely lonely lonely
So I went to a protest just to rub up against strangers
And I did feel like coming but I also felt like crying
It doesn't seem so worth it right now

Oh summer in the city means cleavage cleavage cleavage
And don't get me wrong, dear, in general I'm doing quite fine
It's just when it's summer in the city, and you're so long gone from the city
I start to miss you, baby, sometimes

Brooklyn

This photo was taken completely by accident. I was trying to get a picture of the passing cab when the pigeon flew in my way. Pretty lucky.

Chinatown

This photo was taken into a window in Chinatown, NYC. I like that you can see both the New York City street and the trinkets that Chinatown is known for selling. The waving gold cat ( I don't know if there's a real name for that) and the Statue of Liberty figurines create a nice juxtaposition of Chinese and American heritages which collide in the few blocks that make up Chinatown. These seemingly floating symbols of two cultures also create a nice symbolism of the useless things of which materialism is made.

July 6, 2010
Brooklyn Bridge Park

Underneath the lilac tree
I'll close my eyes and suddenly
I'm 10 years old and running through
Open field, chasing after you
Sounds of summer fill my ears
If I live 10,000 years
I'll never feel as good as this
There is nothing to demand
No algebra to understand
Just sunlight on a freckled face
And everything in its right place

Simple things turn magical
Minutes freeze like popsicles
They drip their seconds down our shirts
There is nothing to control
No question mark left on our souls
Just sunlight on a freckled face

There is nothing to demand
No politics to understand
Just sunlight on a freckled face
Everything in its right place
Everything in its right place

PS1

We went to the MoMA PS1 museum yesterday afternoon. Walking in was an overpowering burst of color. Giant colorful yoga balls were suspended in white nets above our heads.
Inside the museum was different from anything I've been to before. Long corridors housed modern art that was occasionally creepy and off-putting. It wasn't my favorite art collection but I loved the space that it was set in, with it's squeaky hardwood floors and giant white brick walls.

Mother and Daughter

I love the water in the negative space of this photo. I also like that it retains a little mystery in both where and who these women are. I feel that their arms melting together at the bottom of the frame gives them a real sense of intimacy, the bond of a mother and her child.

UNION SQUARE

On top is a film still by Cindy Sherman and on the bottom I tried to replicate the emotions that that still evokes. Sherman's subject seems lonely, and I like the way the columns surrounding Sasha (on the bottom) make her look small and insignificant to the frame. My favorite part of photo is the leaning graffiti figure on the wall behind her. It is reminiscent of Sherman's subject, almost as if shes fading into the background. This being a contemporary interpretation of the photo, I found it very fitting.
